Wheel of the Year — July & the Gateway to Harvest 🌾
The space between Litha and Lammas
July sits in one of my favourite places on the Wheel of the Year — the glowing bridge between Litha's midsummer peak and the first breath of Lammas, which arrives on Saturday 1 August.
We are in the fullness of summer now. The days are long and golden, the earth is lush and generous, and yet — if you listen quietly — you can begin to feel the very first whisper of the turning. The light is still extraordinary, but it is changing. The evenings are beginning, just imperceptibly, to draw in. This in-between space is rich with magic. It is a time of abundance, of gratitude, of savouring what is here before the wheel begins its slow turn toward autumn.
Lammas / Lughnasadh | Saturday 1 August 2026
Just as July closes, Lammas — also known as Lughnasadh — arrives on Saturday 1 August. Named for the Celtic god Lugh, it is the first of the three harvest festivals on the Wheel of the Year. Traditionally, this was the time of the grain harvest: the first loaves baked from the new wheat, shared in gratitude for the earth's gifts.
Lammas is a festival of first fruits — a time to ask: what have I harvested this year? What has come to fruition? What seeds, planted in Imbolc and Ostara, have I watched grow through spring and summer into something real and ready?
It is also a time to honour the hands that make things. The hands that knead bread, tend gardens, craft with care. In my little workshop, I think of Lammas as a celebration of the maker — and I feel it deeply.

The Full Moon of July is the Buck Moon, and she rises on Wednesday 29 July at 15:37 BST — a rare afternoon full moon, full of fire and visibility. She falls in the sign of Aquarius: visionary, independent, community-minded, and electric.
The Buck Moon takes her name from the male deer — bucks — who begin to grow their antlers in July, pushing new growth upward with remarkable speed and strength. It is a beautiful image of rising power and natural abundance.
Aquarius energy asks us to zoom out: what are you contributing to the world beyond yourself? What community, what vision, what collective dream are you part of? This full moon invites you to celebrate both your individuality and your sense of belonging.
